Seashell sketch

Tonight my drawing is a look back on high school art class. You know where they put a shell on a table and tell you to draw. They're complex and take a while to sketch but they do come out pretty nice.

Lately I've been finding the need to draw things that are entertaining for me, as opposed to what might be directly related to furthering my skill. But I'm still learning.

Japanese woodblock style waves

This is my first attempt at a favorite of mine. The waves depicted by the Japanese woodblock print artists have always interested me.

Tree roots sketch

I love to draw the twisted forms of tree roots. Tonight I drew them slightly stylized to emphasize their interlocking twists and turns, hollows and bumps. As I was drawing I became aware of how much volume I could create by layering one twist over another. This was a fun exercise that I will revisit.
