Old man of the sea

Just a quick sketch tonight of an old man I found on Google images.

Rocks drawing

Tonight I studied the credited work of two Arthurs, Rackham and Rankin Jr. I've loved the way the rocks looked in their designs since first I saw them. I think my own style and preference works quite well with their visions. However I feel that Rackham's work is at times a little two sketchy and unfinished without the depth of values to give the forms 3-dimensional definition.

Hands study

I realized after the drawing last night, that I need to get a better memorization of the basic forms of the hand and how they relate to one another. The hands are the most complicated part of the human body to draw, and right behind the face in the realism necessary to be convincing.

Jekyll and Hyde

I had a little picture in my head of these two, so here I did a speed sketch to see how fast I could lay down my ideas. Took about an hour.

Rounded forms study

This was a lot harder than it looks. Intersecting rounded forms with each other to create a 3D geometry, while shading them as both one large shape and individual forms... while keeping in mind the reflected light from the surrounding environment and between the forms themselves. Kind of looks like one big band of muscles.

Da Vinci hand study

I practiced a few things tonight, copying from the quintessential master. I studied reflected light, contrast and the depth of forms, and line work.
