Fighting Faerie

So I asked Melissa what I should draw tonight and she says she'll find me some examples on the internet. You guessed it... google images filled with faries riding unicorns. So this is part one of the sketch I'm working on, the defending faerie.

Here is an example of the third caste of magical creatures. He took probably about an hour and a half in all, not a bad nights work.

Bug & Mammal

Two characters I drew tonight in response to an idea I had for a children's book about magical humanoid creatures that disguise themselves as ordinary animals. The idea I have is pretty complex and would take a while to explain so for now, I'll just be posting sketches and ideas for the book until it is more flushed out. Cheers

Hand studies

After a boring, then stressful, then finally tiring day I decided to do some simple hand studies tonight. The book I'm studying out of is by Burne Hogarth. I like how he simplifies the forms so that they're easily understandable and memorized.

Tree study

Tonight's drawing I decided to study the overlapping nature of tree foliage. I'm very interested in volumes and how to illustrate them.

Face Structure Studies

Its been a while since I was in school, and I've forgotten a lot of the anatomy I once knew. Today's study session consisted of me following along to Lumis and the construction of the human face. Its funny how most of the construction skills are in the back of my head. They've just been clouded through years of neglect and speeding through drawings. I've forgotten what lies beneath the skins surface.
