Line work & a Hot tub party

Varying the weight of line-work used in an illustration can drastically change its character. I came by this style of illustration by studying mechanical engineering drawings, and Leonardo Da-Vinci sketches. The driving motivation behind adopting this style is to improve communication of the drawing's narrative.

Oliva drew me and her in a glass hot tub having a soak cause she missed me while I was at work today.

Layout Art & A Minecraft Creeper Girl

I do my graphic design by first sketching out my compositions quickly before I ever put mouse to pixel. Sometimes on paper, sometimes with the tablet, but always by hand. Below is a page of sketches created for a spread in a booklet I'm working on.

Olivia loves Minecraft, so she drew her impression of a blocky creeper girl with pigtails, a bow, and a toothy smile, and totally creeping me out.

Wicked Fairy & Snowflake Fairy

Drawing A Day is a Thing again!
I have started drawing again at nights, but this time I've got my daughter doing it as well. So each day I will post my sketch/drawing/whatever along with my daughter Olivia's from the night before. Today's sketch is a coy and plotting fairy twirling her tail between her fingers.

Mini Me's crayon drawing is of a snowflake fairy, snowy mountains, a crystal castle, snowflakes, and a sunrise in the background. She's attempting shading and blending colors, not bad for a 6 year old.

Labyrinth sketch

Today I have completed my one year goal of doing a sketch or drawing a day. It has definately been a challenge and I learned a lot from it. I've managed to set up a daily routine for myself and have become encustomed to doing artwork every day. It has helped me improve by daily practice and I think I've finally come up with a illustration style I'm excited about. This coming year I will continue to do daily artwork, however I wont be posting a drawing every day but a more polished illustration or art project once a week. When I finally work from home as a freelance illustrator I will definately start back up posting a drawing a day. Here's to a new year!
