Swirling forms

I'm working on a two part drawing with this one. I developed the swirling forms first. Then I plan on creating a little world within the forms.

I've been wanting to see this celebration for myself, Día de los Muertos has an Aztec quality about its art traditions. And I like the decorative stylings of the Aztecs.

Jasper from 101 Dalmations

I took the classic Disney animated character of Jasper and mixed in a bit of caricature based on Hugh Laurie. Who played Jasper in the live action movie. I happened to have the cartoon movie playing in the background while drawing.

Norman Rockwell study

I'm looking at the narrative style of Norman Rockwell for a little project I'm working on. His quirky paintings of people are great at telling a story. And his slightly exaggerated sense of reality is in alignment with my preferred style.

Elephant sketch

Worked on a stylized drawing of an elephant tonight.

Rose of Sharon

A drawing I'm working on of a very beautiful flower. The detail that can be captured within just one petal is amazing... This will be a two night study of the flower.

Frog sketch

Tonight I went with more loose style and worked with light and shadow in gestural marks. Oh yes the frog is crying and wearing a fez.. I don't know why.

I worked on water reflections tonight. Didn't turn out the way I wanted, but I was pretty tired.

A little mental divergence in time

Behind Back to the future, 12 Monkeys is my favorite time travel movie. I drew this little sketch of Brad Pitt with it playing in the background. Worked on my forced perspective tonight... Still need work.

One of the best anime movies created, and I believe the most complex sci-fi story ever told in the medium. This is just my little sketch of Tetsuo during his metamorphosis.

Old man of the sea

Just a quick sketch tonight of an old man I found on Google images.

Rocks drawing

Tonight I studied the credited work of two Arthurs, Rackham and Rankin Jr. I've loved the way the rocks looked in their designs since first I saw them. I think my own style and preference works quite well with their visions. However I feel that Rackham's work is at times a little two sketchy and unfinished without the depth of values to give the forms 3-dimensional definition.

Hands study

I realized after the drawing last night, that I need to get a better memorization of the basic forms of the hand and how they relate to one another. The hands are the most complicated part of the human body to draw, and right behind the face in the realism necessary to be convincing.

Jekyll and Hyde

I had a little picture in my head of these two, so here I did a speed sketch to see how fast I could lay down my ideas. Took about an hour.

Rounded forms study

This was a lot harder than it looks. Intersecting rounded forms with each other to create a 3D geometry, while shading them as both one large shape and individual forms... while keeping in mind the reflected light from the surrounding environment and between the forms themselves. Kind of looks like one big band of muscles.

Da Vinci hand study

I practiced a few things tonight, copying from the quintessential master. I studied reflected light, contrast and the depth of forms, and line work.

Honeybees in their hive

This sketch shows some promise. I am liking the style of the understated colors and the bulbous forms. The bees also turned out pretty well.

The start of a little cartoony honeybee scene tonight. Just worked out the style I'm gonna go with and one bee tonight.

Paper burning

I practiced drawing both the folds of paper, and the motions of fire. I didn't have it in me tonight to make the fire realistic in glow and form, instead I just worked on how fire flows through itself, lifting its fuel into the air and consuming it.

4th of July super fountain

In honor of all the bat shit crazy pyromania I experienced tonight, I decided to draw a firework of my own design.

Just a little sketch tonight, kind of like a little homage to last night's drawing.

Phoenix drawing

You know, there's no such thing as a phoenix so they could look like anything really. Perhaps like a fat chicken who bursts into flames when it's their time to go. The Colonel's best friend.
